Oliver Marks III, affectionately known as Sonny, was born on October 4, 1954, to parents Oliver Marks Jr and Lucille Cooper Atlanta, GA, and passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, in Manchester, GA. Known for his infectious smile and warm personality, Oliver dedicated his life to bringing joy to those around him.

Oliver spent his career at Agnes Scott College, where he was respected and admired for his commitment and work ethic. He took immense pride in his family, especially his two daughters, Shakira Marks and Latonya Lowe, who were among his proudest accomplishments. Shakira is married to Garnett Donaldson, and Latonya is married to Keevis Lowe. Oliver was also a beloved grandfather to nine grandchildren: Shanell Marks, Jasmine Donaldson, Isaiah Donaldson, Waliyyah Donaldson, Fatimah Donaldson, Jalil Donaldson, Jeremiah Lowe, Jonathan Lowe, and Chapell Donaldson, as well as eleven great-grandchildren.

Oliver shared a long and loving relationship with his girlfriend, Mary Hardnett, who was by his side through many of life's adventures. He is also survived by five sisters—Mary A. Smith, Margret M. Murry of Lithonia, GA, Maxine Marks, Joyce Chapman of Ellenwood, and Stella Marks-Payton and her husband Brian of Covington, GA—and a brother, Charles Marks and his wife Carol Marks of Newark, NJ.

A man of many interests, Oliver had a passion for fixing things and loved working on houses. His favorite music included the smooth sounds of The Whispers, which often provided the soundtrack to his life. Oliver was known for his ability to make others laugh and lived every day to its fullest, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.

His warmth, humor, and dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Oliver Marks III’s legacy of laughter and love will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched.
