It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Nancy “Nan” Lee Woods, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and her cherished granddaughter, Nyla Woods, who passed away together on October 4, 2025. They died peacefully in Nancy’s home due to an unfortunate carbon monoxide accident.
Nancy “Nan” Lee Woods was a devoted mother, grandmother, and retired special education teacher who dedicated more than 30 years to shaping young minds. With a master’s degree in Special Education, she received multiple commendations and was recognized as Teacher of the Year several times during her career. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nancy’s proudest achievements were her two daughters and three grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
She is survived by her daughters Sarah Isen and Amanda Woods; son-in-law Adam Isen; her beloved grandchildren Eli and Ayla Isen and her sisters Barbara Sloan and Carole Barrett.
Nancy, affectionately called Nan or Nanno by her sisters and Grandma by her grandchildren, was known for her humor, generosity, and heart of gold. Her laugh was infectious, the kind that could light up a room and make everyone around her smile. She loved to laugh and always found humor in any situation, even during difficult times. Her family describes her as funny, compassionate, supportive, and delightfully stubborn. She was the one everyone could count on — always putting others before herself and caring deeply for those she loved. Her favorite saying was “Love you to the moon and back,” and she often playfully referred to klutzy loved ones as “Klepatoras.”
The relationship between Nancy and Nyla was one of mutual adoration. Nyla was the apple of Nancy’s eye, and their bond was incredibly deep. They laughed often and loved spending time together, playing games, reading stories, crafting, having sleepovers, and making special trips for ice cream. Their days were filled with joy, love, and laughter, and their connection brought endless happiness to their family.
Nancy and Nyla will be cremated and rest together, as they were in life, side by side, forever.
Their lives will be honored in a Celebration of Life, Sunday October 19th, 2025, (Details below). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hamilton County Humane Society, an organization that reflects Nancy’s compassion and love for animals. See link below. https://www.hamiltonhumane.com/how-to-help/memorial
The family also urges all loved ones and anyone reading this to check your carbon monoxide detectors and make sure you fully understand how to prevent this type of accident from ever happening. Taking a few moments to ensure your home is safe can save lives.
Nancy and Nyla will be missed beyond measure, but their love and their memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew them.
