Mrs. Odie Mae Atkins, affectionately known as Polly, was born on June 20, 1950, in Wynne, Arkansas, and she passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee. A devoted homemaker, Mrs. Atkins dedicated her life to caring for her family and those in her community. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Issac B. Morris and Jerome Hollis, and her daughter Janice Hollis. She is also survived by her sister, Franky Mae Brown, a host of nieces and nephews, and a multitude of grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Mrs. Atkins was known for her generous spirit and her unwavering commitment to helping others. She loved fishing every day and enjoyed cooking her favorite meals, which included meatloaf, greens, and cornbread. A lifelong fan of music, she cherished the sounds of Al Green and Johnny Taylor, often losing herself in their soulful melodies. Her favorite pastime included watching Lifetime movies, which brought her both entertainment and comfort.
An avid believer in living life to the fullest, Mrs. Atkins embraced each day with gratitude and faith in God. She was a proud member of the Seventh-day Adventist church and believed deeply in the importance of community service, often participating in programs to feed the homeless and assist those in need. Her life motto, "A close mouth won't get fed," reflected her proactive approach to advocating for herself and others.
Mrs. Atkins found joy in her favorite place, Hawaii, and her beautiful, forgiving nature touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She was a blessing to her family and community, and her proudest accomplishment was raising adopted children, ensuring they felt loved and supported.
She was married to the late William "Bill" Morris, and though he has passed, their love remains a cherished memory for their family. Mrs. Odie Mae Atkins will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
