Obituary

Celebrating the life of Modesta Garcia, who was born on February 3, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, we mourn her passing on November 18, 2025, in Floydada, Texas. Modesta's journey through life was marked by unwavering love, strength, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew her. Modesta was the cherished daughter of Manuel and Maria Alonzo, who instilled in her the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, as well as her brothers, David, Carlos, Juan, Fred, and her sisters, Josephina and Margarita. Their memories lived on in her heart, shaping the woman she became and the love she extended to her own family. As a mother, Modesta was devoted beyond measure. She raised her children, Melissa J. Flores of Queen Creek, AZ, Ray Garcia, and Bobby Ray of Lubbock, TX, with an abundance of love and encouragement. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren: Daisy Garcia, Lily Simpson, Daniella Jaramillo, Little Ricky Jaramillo, Marissa Garcia, Noah Garcia, Serena Garcia, and Christian and Brandon McCarroll, who brought light into her life each day. The laughter and warmth of her great-grandchildren, Janessa Garcia and Elias Rodriguez, filled her heart with indescribable happiness. Modesta cherished her role as a sister, maintaining close ties with her siblings: Manuel, Gilbert, Maria Antonia, Joe, Samuel, and Michael Alonzo. She also held a special place in her heart for her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, including Maria Elena Gonzalez, Hortencia Jaramillo, Dominga Vasquez, and Lidia Rodriguez. Family gatherings were a testament to her deep-rooted love for her family, where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and bonds were strengthened. Throughout her life, Modesta faced challenges with grace and fortitude, most notably her battle with leukemia. She approached her illness with the same bravery that characterized her life, inspiring those around her with her strength and positivity. Her legacy is one of resilience, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her. Modesta's love for her family was matched only by her kindness towards others. She was known for her warm smile, gentle heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Her compassion extended beyond her family, as she made an impact in her community through her acts of service and dedication. As we say goodbye to Modesta Garcia, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will never fade.
