Michael W. Tatarewicz, known affectionately as “Tater” and “Mikopedia,” passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on February 6, 1962, in Reading, PA, Michael lived a full and vibrant life, most recently residing in Virginia Beach, VA.
A devoted fan of rock music, Michael had an enduring passion for The Beatles, which was only rivaled by his love for sports. He was a lifelong supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies, often found cheering passionately at games. His favorite place in the world was the Eagles' home stadium, which he visited whenever he could. Michael enjoyed gathering with family and friends for barbecues and swimming, relishing in the camaraderie that these moments brought.
Michael graduated from Reading High School, where he showcased his musical talent in the marching band. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gato submarine in the 1980s. After his military service, he worked with esteemed companies such as EG&G, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Department of Defense, and Myriad Industries, holding various roles including control room operator, project manager, and technical documentation specialist.
He was known for his outgoing personality, great sense of humor, and the ability to forge lasting friendships wherever he went. Michael had a special bond with his niece, Stephanie, whom he helped raise, and he cherished his role in her life, becoming a father figure to her and an adored uncle to her six children: Savannah, Cheyenne, TJ, Saphire, Harley, and Ravyn.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Anthony Tatarewicz Jr. and Joanne Eve Dombrowski, and is survived by his sister, Sandra Lee Tatarewicz, and his niece and her children. He will be remembered not only for his love of pizza and a good Philly cheesesteak but also for the joy he brought to those around him. His laughter, friendship, and the countless memories—like the time he and his friends nearly got kicked out of a bingo hall for their antics—will be cherished by all who knew him.
As a testament to his passionate spirit, Michael lived by the motto “Fly Eagles Fly!” and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship. He will be profoundly missed.
