Michael Steven Fernandez, affectionately known as Mike, passed away on April 7, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on November 7, 1957, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Reyes Fernandez and Oralia Fernandez.
Mike grew up in a large family and attended South High School, graduating in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he earned two honorable discharges. Following his military service, Mike worked at Hill Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic for many years. He later dedicated 25 years to the Salt Lake Parks Department, also contributing to the Snow Plow Crew before retiring.
A vibrant and genuine individual, Mike lived life to the fullest with endless strength. He had a deep love for music and dancing and was especially passionate about playing his guitar. Known for his kindness and generosity, he often helped others without expecting anything in return and was fondly referred to as the "Golden Boy." Mike cherished taking his mother to church and sharing meals together afterward at Chuck-A-Rama.
On December 20, 2005, Michael married Sylvia Fernandez. He is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia Fernandez; a truly good friend Barbara; his daughter Aaliyah Fernandez; granddaughter Unique Sargent; brothers Leonard Fernandez and Tony Fernandez; and sisters Lisa Fernandez, Angie Fernandez, and Dorothy Jaramillo.
He was preceded in death by his father Reyes Fernandez; mother Oralia Fernandez; brothers Ruben Fernandez Sr., Patrick Fernandez, Reyes Fernandez, Willie Moore, Billy Moore, and Richard Moore; nephews Gino Fernandez, Jatino Fernandez, Valentino Fernandez; and step-son Antonio Vasquez.
Mike’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his legacy of kindness and strength continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
