Michael B. Jordan, Acclaimed Actor and Producer, Dies at 38
February 9, 1987 – May 2, 2025
Michael Bakari Jordan, the magnetic and groundbreaking actor known for his powerful performances in Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther, passed away on May 2, 2025. He was 38.
Born in Santa Ana, California, and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Michael B. Jordan brought a rare intensity and vulnerability to every role he touched. From his early days on The Wire and Friday Night Lights, to his box-office domination in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jordan became a cultural icon and an ambassador for stories that celebrated Black excellence, perseverance, and humanity.
He rose to prominence portraying Oscar Grant in Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station (2013), a harrowing and deeply humanizing portrait that set the tone for his career: emotionally rich, socially conscious, and unapologetically bold. Jordan would go on to redefine the sports genre with his portrayal of Adonis Creed, breathing new life into the Rocky franchise while forging a powerful new legacy of his own.
In 2018, he stunned the world as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther—a villain as tragic as he was fearsome—earning critical acclaim and redefining the complexity of antagonists in modern cinema.
Beyond acting, Jordan made waves as a producer through his company Outlier Society, championing inclusion and mentoring emerging talent. He became one of the first major Hollywood producers to adopt an inclusion rider, demanding equity in hiring practices across his projects.
Jordan was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2020 and remained a global symbol of strength, style, and substance.
Despite his fame, those close to him remember Michael as grounded, humble, and fiercely dedicated to his craft and community. A devoted son, brother, and friend, he used his platform to uplift others, speak out against injustice, and inspire future generations.
He is survived by his parents, Donna and Michael A. Jordan, his siblings, Jamila and Khalid, and millions of fans around the world who will carry his legacy forward.
A private ceremony will be held for family, with public celebrations of life to follow in Los Angeles and Newark.
Michael B. Jordan once said, “Legacy is not what I did for myself. It’s what I’m doing for the next generation.” His legacy, now eternal, burns brighter than ever.
We'll plant real trees for you in Michael's memory and display your contribution forever.
