Mary loved to read and watch the birds squirrels and neighbors. She would travel when she could to see family.
One of Mary’s favorite food was Butter Pecan ice cream. She could never get enough of it.
Mary’s favorite band was The Irish Tenors, who sang her favorite song, Danny boy. When her boys were younger she would sing that song to them every night.
Mary always had a big heart, she loved her family deeply. She would laugh every time her boys would ask who was her favorite. To which she would giggle and not answer. In all of her jobs she gave everything she had and excelled with her career. Her grand kids were always the apple of her eye. One of her dear friends, Regina, would come over frequently and they would be caught giggling and talking like school girls. They would often sit and talk for hours.
Mary loved to be around family and with her grand kids. Sadly she couldn’t see all of them as some live far away, but she missed them all fiercely.
Mary’s favorite place in the world would be Ireland and Scotland. She always said she wanted to travel there and see it.
Mary would often turn the tv on and just watch whatever came on. Sometimes it would be hallmark movies or Judge Joe Brown. She said she couldn’t stand watching Judge Judy. The rest of the time she would watch infomercials to buy the latest item they were selling, whether she needed it or not. Many family members say she was like “Mamaw” (her mother).
Mary’s favorite sport was soccer and football. When her boys would play she would be there ready to cheer them on.
Mary Kathryn Richards, born on May 21, 1955, in Kegley, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, in her sleep. Kathy was a reader and nature enthusiast, Kathy found joy in watching the birds and squirrels outside her window, while also cherishing the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye.
Kathy had a soft spot for Butter Pecan ice cream, enjoying it whenever she could, and she loved the soothing melodies of The Irish Tenors, often singing "Danny Boy" to her boys, Brian and Jeff, as they were growing up. Her laughter would fill the room, especially when her children teased her about her favorite, a question she playfully avoided answering.
Professionally, Kathy dedicated herself to her career as a paralegal, achieving her goal through hard work and determination before retiring in 2021. Her proudest accomplishments were raising her two boys, who went on to create loving families of their own, further extending her legacy.
Kathys’ warm heart extended to her community, as she was actively involved in her local Catholic church in Princeton and Bluefield, where she forged meaningful connections. She cherished the time spent with her dear friend Regina, where they would often giggle and reminisce like school girls.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Brian Richards and Jasmine Patterson and Jeff Richards and Beth Faulkner along with seven grandchildren: Alex R, Alex S, Ethan, Drew, Peyton, Jaxson, and Weston. She is also survived by her brothers, Johnny and Pat Clark, and her sister, Ann Beck, along with a multitude of nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Kathys’ favorite pastimes included watching Hallmark movies and Judge shows or watching soccer and football games with her boys. Her dream was to travel to Ireland and Scotland, a testament to her adventurous spirit. Kathy will be remembered for her boundless love, her infectious laughter, and the connections she fostered with her family and friends.
