Mary Kirkland Obituary

Mary Kirkland was born on May 17, 1944 to the late Harrison and Sarah Roach of Elizabeth City, NC. Mary is the last sibling of four sisters and two brothers. She departed this life on April 24, 2026 in Virginia Beach, VA.

Mary always displayed a quiet, sweet spirit and was full of love. She loved children and they loved her. Many children were attracted to her at first sight. She held a daycare center in her home for several years.

Mary was a faithful charter member of Village Church. She participated in several ministries over the years. She served in the Pastor’s Aide and Women’s Fellowship ministries until her health began to fail. She could be counted on to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Mary’s beautiful smile and pleasant demeanor brought warmth to all she encountered. She was married to her loving, devoted husband of 35 years, William “Kirk” Kirkland. Her love of family and friends was a true testament to her character. She has loving family in North Carolina, Michigan, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Indiana.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, William Kirkland; five children, Annette, Johnny, Tony, Dominque, and Barbara; two step-daughters, Phyllis Govan and Angela Kelly; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The chilling hands of death have robbed her of her earthly beauty but in that resurrection morning, she shall bloom again.
