Marshall Tyreek Taylor, born on January 22, 1987, in Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 11, 2024, in Glen Burnie, MD. Marshall was a loving father, dedicated to his one and only son, Tyriq Taylor. He cherished spending time with his family and had a deep passion for basketball, both as a player and a spectator.
Marshall had a fondness for Caribbean and soul food, particularly his mother's cooking. His love for music was boundless, with God being his favorite band and musical artist. He was known for his loyalty and his willingness to go out of his way to bring smiles to the faces of his loved ones.
Marshall found immense joy in giving God all the glory for any success he achieved throughout his life. His favorite place in the world was Orlando, Florida, and he enjoyed watching shows like Martin and My Wife and Kids. His favorite sports included football, basketball, and boxing. Marshall was known by his nicknames Smoovy Groovy and Reek.
Professionally, Marshall played basketball for Texas College, where he won the Newcomer of the Year award and earned first and second-team honors in the Red River Conference. His proudest accomplishment was being a father to his son, Tyriq Taylor.
Marshall is survived by his parents, five siblings, four brothers, and one sister. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity and community impact. Marshall and his father, Marshall Sr., created the ABA (Academics Before Athletics) program, which helped countless colleges and high schools by providing athletic scholarships.
Marshall's dedication to making a positive difference extended beyond sports. He worked with troubled kids at a camp, initially considering quitting but was inspired to continue after hearing their testimonies. He found sponsors for the camp, resulting in 75% of the kids graduating from college or trade schools.
Marshall's leadership and contributions to the community were admirable. He and his father were instrumental in creating opportunities for young athletes, emphasizing academics before athletics. Marshall held strong Christian beliefs and left a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.
In honor of Marshall's memory, his family kindly requests that any donations be made to ABA (Academics Before Athletics) or any charity of your choice. Marshall will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift others.
