MarLayJah Dajae Tarena-Nicole Motley, affectionately known as Laylay, was born on November 9, 2020, in Sacramento, California. She left this world far too soon, passing away on November 18, 2024, in Rancho Cordova, California.

In her brief yet vibrant life, Laylay was many things – a devoted big sister, a playful little sister, and a diva in her own right. She was known for her charming personality and her role as a greeter at the family hair salon. Her energetic spirit was captured in her favorite saying, “Period!” which perfectly encapsulated her bold approach to life.

Laylay took pride in creating artwork on the walls of her home, a testament to her boundless creativity and mischievous nature. She embraced learning with enthusiasm, mastering her colors and numbers while delighting in watching Bible stories on YouTube.

She is survived by her loving parents, Kianshay and Raphael, and her siblings Zanayjah, Zavontia, Marcellus, and R’ielle. Laylay was also cherished by her grandmother Nicole, her Aunty Dede, and her uncles Zalon, Jorden, Zyquan, and Steven.

The stories of MarLayJah’s adventures bring smiles to those who knew her. With a glint of intelligence in her eye, she often outsmarted her family, sneaking into rooms with the stealth of a ninja to find hidden treats, which she would joyfully share with her brother Bobo. Her infectious laughter and bright smile had a way of lighting up any room, endearing her to everyone she met.

Laylay had an extraordinary ability to touch the hearts of those around her, from her baby sister, whom she lovingly taught, to strangers who felt the warmth of her spirit even in brief encounters. Her joyful presence and mischief will be profoundly missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
