Obituary

Mark Allan Maki, affectionately known as "Smak," was born on March 26, 1956, in Hancock, MI. He passed away on August 3, 2024, in Wausau WI. Mark was a devoted husband to his wife, Susan Maki, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.

Mark was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army before dedicating 20 years of his life to the United States Postal Service. He was known for his strong work ethic and his unwavering commitment to passing on his knowledge, skills, and abilities to those around him.

In his leisure time, Mark found joy in working on his yard, tinkering with his beloved Nova, and enjoying visits to Calumet Waterworks with Suzie. He had a deep love for music, especially the tunes of Tom Petty, and found solace in the beauty of Brockway Mountain, which he cherished visiting with his family.

He is survived by his four sons: Jesse (Jennifer), Allan (Alyssa), Nathan (Tanya), and Christopher (Heather), who will forever carry his legacy. Mark also leaves behind his siblings: Lynn, Edward, Deborah, and Tina, as well as his beloved Aunt Patsy and Uncle Kenny, along with many friends who became like family.

Mark's personality was characterized by a unique sense of humor and a steadfast determination; he always believed he had the right way of doing things. He loved sitting by the fire with a cold beer in hand on his freshly cut grass, embodying a spirit of contentment that those around him found infectious.

Mark was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and often provided constructive criticism that came from a place of care and concern. His life motto, “It is what it is. If it's meant to be, it will be,” reflected his pragmatic approach to life, a philosophy that influenced many.

Mark Allan Maki will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and service will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
