Marinela Garza, known to many as "Mari," "Nonnie," and "momma," peacefully passed away on April 28, 2024, at the age of 60 battling brain cancer (Glioblastoma IV). She was born on August 11, 1963, in Tulia, TX, and most recently resided in San Antonio, TX. Marinela was a brave and strong-willed woman who lived life to the fullest.

Marinela had a deep love for feeding ducks every morning, collecting rocks, and decorating. She had a passion for good food, especially a great bloody steak with shrimp, a baked potato, and sunflower seeds. She also had a sweet tooth for duck donuts. Marinela was known for her daring spirit, never turning down a shot of Quita Penas, and laughing in the face of danger.

But above all, Marinela cherished being surrounded by her family and friends. She loved sharing laughter, storytelling, and a super cold icee beer while reminiscing about life and memories. Michigan and Colorado held a special place in her heart, and she enjoyed watching TV shows like "Quantum Leap," "MASH," and "This Is Us." Marinela was also a fan of basketball and volleyball, and her favorite movies included "It's a Wonderful Life," "Notting Hill," "Ever After," and the "Twilight" series.

Marinela was the beloved daughter of Olivia Costillo and Juan A. Garza. She was the loving mother of Kristie Pastrano, Heather M. Garza, Cory Calderon, and Matthew I. Calderon. Marinela adored her grandchildren Logan, Ethan, Aiden, Samuel, Harmony, Heather, and Isabella.

Known for her glow, wit, and laughter, Marinela left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her enthusiastic storytelling and boisterous energy will forever be remembered. Marinela is survived by her children, their spouses and families Mathew and Crystal Calderon , her siblings Lilia Cantú, Melba Garza, Virginia Blanco, Minerva Garza Smedley, Juan Manuel Garza, and sister-in-law Cynthia Garza. She is also survived by her daughter Kristie Pastrano and Veronica Llanos-Davis. Marinela's presence will be deeply missed by her loved ones, but her spirit will be carried on in their hearts.

In honor of Marinela's vibrant personality and zest for life, her family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and the countless memories she created. Marinela's favorite quote, "You're not the boss of me," and her infectious laughter will continue to echo in the lives she touched.
