IN REMEMBRANCE OF MARILYN
Beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother
Marilyn passed away on Sept 18, 2022 after a long struggle with Lewy body/Parkinsons. She is remembered by family and friends who loved her so much. A private Memorial is planned for December 1, 2022. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to an animal preservation which will be posted soon.
THE LIFE OF MOM
Marilyn was always a mom. She married Jerry as a teen and had Sheree and Susan. Living with her parents Bill and Vernie AKA Nanabill and Bill and older sister Jeanie she had lots of help. Even when Marilyn and Jerry moved out on their own to Fullerton and bought their first house Jeanie would pick up Sheree for the weekend so mom could tend to Susan’s needs. Susan was a preemie. She was the cutest little baby and so tiny. After various jobs Jerry bought Marilyn’s dad Bill’s business.. Sandee Muffler. The shop was in Culver City which made for long days for a mother of two at home. Marilyn was a brownie leader for the girls. Her nickname was Butch”. She loved it. The family soon upgraded to a house in Placentia on Canard Avenue. It was a great neighborhood with lots of kids and Marilyn made many friends with the other moms who became lifelong friends we called the “ Bridge Group”. Once a week the moms would get together for pool day where they would go to Maureen’s house. She was the one with the pool. The kids would swim all day while the moms would tan and chitchat. There were Halloween parties and Fourth of July block parties. It was a great time in Marilyn’s life. At one time when Jeanie was waiting for her new home to be ready she moved in and got to know Marilyn’s friends too. In 1971 the family moved to a great two-story house with a pool in the next neighborhood Hudson Ave where Marilyn lived the rest of her life. It was a great house right behind the high school EDHS where all the girls went. I say ALL because in 1971Marilyn had another daughter Sandee. ( Sandee Muffler get it?) Sandee was quite impressed with the van dad drove with her name emblazoned across it Lol. Marilyn was involved with Sheree and Susan’s classes.she was Susan’s Brownie leader. She made cheerleading skirts and pinafores and hosted the annual Varsity Football breakfast at her home. Marilyn worked in Sandees classes and ran the annual school Christmas boutique where she enlisted her parents and sister to help in making boutique items for the kids to buy as Christmas gifts. She was also volunteered as Girl Scout leader for Sandee. This is where she developed her love of camping. Camping badges were a must in her troop! Very creatively she even made an outdoor bucket shower! When the older girls graduated Marilyn stayed very involved in volunteering and Sandee’s cheerleading where she made her famous Whoopie Pies for sports favors! Having divorced and discovering her love for snow skiing she took Sandee and her friends on many snow skiing and water skiing trips.
About this time the older girls were marrying and having children. Susan had 3 and Sheree had 2: little Sheree, BJ, Chris, Seskef and Ryley . Marilyn was a dedicated grandmother and became known as nana. After her graduation Sandee married Chad Baker and they had 2 had children:Gavin and Camren. Oh yes along the way there were to be 2 more grandchildren.
At one point When Sheree and her husband were doing a major remodel Nana offered that they move in with her. A couple months turned into 1 and 1/2 years and Sherees family of four moved out as a family of 6. Yes Trey and Irial children were born in her home. Fortunately for Marilyn she began working full time at GTE during this time or she may have gone crazy! and she added another group of great friends from GTE.
So nine grandchildren in total. Nana loved them so much and would do anything for them.
Holidays were the best. Nana hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas! She would get so excited to decorate for Christmas that she began decorating the minute after Thanksgiving. (Sometimes before!) Decorations in every room. The house was transformed and so beautiful!! She and Jeanie did a lot of shopping! When Sheree divorced and brought Bill into the family he was a bit blown away. I wish the great grandchildren Katie and Miyuki could experience it and experience her.
I kinda think that’s what Marilyn is doing now. Because she was unstoppable at Christmas I think she’s in heaven transforming it all into Christmas❤️
We'll plant real trees for you in Marilyn's memory and display your contribution forever.
