Marilyn Jean Harlan, beloved mother, grandmother, and animal advocate, passed away on June 6, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on October 30, 1939, in San Jose, CA, and most recently resided in Fresno, CA.
Marilyn had a passion for animals and dedicated her life to their well-being. She was known for taking in and caring for any animal in need, whether it be dogs, cats, birds, possums, or squirrels. Marilyn's love for animals extended beyond her own home, as she actively supported wildlife and animal foundations such as the Wildlife Foundation and ASPCA.
Throughout her life, Marilyn made significant contributions to her community. She proudly served as the 2nd Woman to be elected to the Clovis City Council and owned a Baskin Robbins in Fashion Fair Mall. Prior to this, she worked as a probation officer in San Jose, CA.
Marilyn's warm and compassionate nature touched the lives of those around her. She will be remembered for her kind heart and her dedication to helping those who couldn't help themselves. Marilyn's favorite quote, "Help those who can't help themselves," deeply resonated with her and guided her actions throughout her life.
In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed riding horses, advocating for animals, and getting involved in the community. She had a love for crab, prime rib, baked potatoes, grapes, and oranges. Marilyn's taste in music ranged from Neil Diamond to Vince Gill, Elvis Presley to Andrea Bocelli.
Three Rivers, CA held a special place in Marilyn's heart, as it was where she spent cherished moments on a ranch during her childhood. She also enjoyed watching Nightly News with David Meir, American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars. When it came to sports, Marilyn was a fan of football, basketball, horse racing, and ice skating.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children, son Michael Zygner and daughter Kelli Zygner, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Seth Zygner and Mishka Zygner. She is also survived by her brother, Jeff McKannay.
Marilyn Jean Harlan leaves behind a legacy of warmth, care, and compassion. Her impact on the lives of others through her generosity and advocacy for wildlife and animal groups will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
