Obituario

Margie Helen Williams, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away suddenly on August 10, 2024, at the age of 77, surrounded by her family in Clarksville, TN. Her life was a shining example of love, service, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.

Born to Harnes and Estelle Stewart on January 16, 1947, in Mathiston, Mississippi, Margie was raised with strong values that guided her throughout her life. While attending college, she bravely joined the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, marching in New Orleans for equality and justice. Her deep passion for education led her to a career as a schoolteacher, where she touched countless lives before marrying and starting her own family. Margie was also a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she extended her reach into the community, volunteering as a substitute teacher and supporting causes such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital through fundraisers and charitable events.

A proud mother of seven—Harnes Mitchell, Linda Mitchell, James Mitchell, Nina Williams, Dr. Arthur Williams, Alberta Williams, and Henri Williams—Margie poured her heart into nurturing and guiding her children. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, as she lovingly raised her grandchildren, Joshua and Madison, as if they were her own. Margie’s home was a welcoming haven for neighborhood children, offering them love, food, and laughter. Her commitment to giving back to her community was steadfast.

Margie’s vibrant spirit was most evident in her love for Halloween, her favorite holiday. Each year, she transformed her home into a festive wonderland, delighting children with candy, toys, and her warm, generous nature. Halloween was her special way of connecting with the younger generation and spreading kindness.

A lifelong sports fan, Margie enjoyed watching football and baseball, a passion she shared with her father. She also had a fondness for Westerns, often watching them to relax and unwind.

Margie is survived by her seven children; her brother, James Stewart; and a host of grandchildren—Joshua Williams, Madison Williams, Aria Williams, Brianne Williams, Kobe Williams, Donovan Mitchell, Hailey Dorsey, Elizabeth Williams, Carlton Atkins Jr., Kyndall Atkins, Erynn Atkins, Princess Atkins, Pharaoh Anderson, Bailie Senecharles-Mitchell, and Brooke Senecharles. Her legacy of kindness and generosity lives on through them.

Margie’s life was guided by the belief that "You never know who you may need in life," a motto that perfectly captured her caring nature and her dedication to helping others. Margie Helen Williams will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, boundless love for her family, and lifelong commitment to making the world a better place for those around her. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her impact on her community will be felt for generations to come.
