She was not much of a sports fan, however she always supported the local San Francisco teams.
Margarita Aroche Witherspoon, affectionately known as Maggie or Rita, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, in Antioch, CA. Born on March 2, 1949, in New York City, NY, she spent her life bringing joy and kindness to those around her.
Margarita dedicated her career to nursing, where she exemplified her loving and giving nature. Her proudest accomplishments were her daughter, Sylvia Collins, and her grandson, Antonio Hernandez, who brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was widowed by Edward Lawrence Witherspoon in 1998, yet she continued to embody resilience and strength.
Margarita cherished the simple pleasures of life, enjoying long walks, spending time at the beach or lake, and sharing meals made with love. Her favorite foods included Puerto Rican, Spanish and Mexican cuisine, reflecting her vibrant cultural heritage. Music was a significant part of her life, with a deep appreciation for artists such as Santana, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra, among others.
Margarita's heart was always open to others. Later in her life, she made an impact in her community, serving as a treasurer and board member in her building, working closely with local officials, including Mayor London Breed, to address community challenges. Her commitment to helping others extended to organizing food and produce distribution and facilitating community gatherings.
A devoted Christian, Margarita held a firm belief in the power of perseverance and prayer, often sharing her favorite quote, "You can make it if you try." Her defining traits of thoughtfulness and hard work left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She is survived by her brothers Louis, Angel, Edward, Luis, Angelo Aroche and Pedro Soto Sr.; her sisters Angela Nunez and Maria Aroche-Lologo; loving friend Colonel Bolt and many other loving friends and family who will miss her tremendously.
Margarita Aroche Witherspoon leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and community service that will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
