Margaret "Peg" Rand, born on August 20, 1920, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in East Patchogue, New York. A devoted wife to her beloved husband, Alonzo Rand, Peg was a source of strength and inspiration throughout her life.
Peg was a remarkable woman whose intellect shone brightly as a biochemist who contributed to the Manhattan Project. Her passion for science was matched only by her love for gardening, dancing, and singing, which filled her home with joy and laughter. A lover of classical music, she found solace in the melodies that accompanied her favorite pastimes.
Affectionately known as Peg, she embraced life with kindness, always remembering to say thank you and sharing her beautiful smile with everyone she met. She took great pride in her family, raising four children and being a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, and she nurtured their dreams and success, including her husband's graduation from Bates College.
Peg's impact on her community was profound; she volunteered for 55 years at the local hospital, embodying a spirit of service that touched many lives. She was also an active member of the Garden Club and the Play Crafters Club, where her creativity and enthusiasm shone brightly.
An Episcopalian, Peg found comfort in her faith and cherished the time spent in her favorite place, London. She enjoyed relaxing evenings watching her favorite TV shows, including "Oklahoma," "Jeopardy," and "Wheel of Fortune," often sharing a comforting bowl of soup with friends and family.
Peg Rand leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived, forever cherished by her family and friends.
We'll plant real trees for you in Margaret's memory and display your contribution forever.
