Obituary

Margaret Lewis, born on August 9, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2006, in Brookfield, Wisconsin. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who filled the lives of her family and friends with laughter and joy.

Margaret was a spirited individual who cherished her time spent on the golf course, ballroom dancing, and tending to her beautiful garden. She loved traveling the world, creating unforgettable memories, and collecting art pieces that reflected her adventurous spirit. Her passions extended to enjoying a big hamburger and sipping vodka gimlets, often while surrounded by loved ones, as she thrived being the center of attention.

A proud mother of two daughters, Laura and Beth, Margaret devoted herself to nurturing their dreams and instilling in them the belief that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to. She was also a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren—Cassie, Tyler, Zander, and Ryan—whom she adored, and she relished her role as a great-grandmother to Luke, Charlotte, and Poe. Family traditions, especially during the Christmas season, were a cornerstone of her life, and she loved creating special moments with her family, including fun-filled 'girls days' and 'boys days' with her grandchildren.

In her community, Margaret was actively involved at St. Augustine Church, teaching CCD classes and leading a Girl Scout troop. She also shared her love for fitness by teaching a gym class at the local elementary school. An accomplished woman, she earned her BA in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and became the Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.

Margaret’s zest for life led her to take up ballroom dancing later in life, where she even competed at the national level, showcasing her vibrant personality and love for movement. Her home in Brookfield, which she shared with her husband Fred Lewis, stood as a testament to her dedication and pride in her garden and surroundings.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and family traditions remains in the hearts of all who knew her. Margaret's life motto, "Grandma's Rule," encapsulated her spirit of nurturing and encouragement. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
