Mamie Marie Perry-Brown (75), best known as “Grandma”, was born on July 6, 1946 in Passaic, New Jersey at Saint Mary’s General Hospital to the Late Sally Christmas Perry and James Perry.
Mamie was raised in Montclair, New Jersey where she was educated in the Montclair school district from elementary through high school. She then attended trade school in Newark, New Jersey where she met her late husband, Robert Elvis Brown, whom she cherished dearly.
Our beloved Sister, Aunt, Mother and Grandmother was a sweet, delightful, joyful, caring, compassionate, kind and warm-hearted person. She was a strong black woman who faced many obstacles and overcame them all with the power of God. Mamie genuinely loved music, dancing, cooking, laughing, entertaining people, helping others and chewing her gum. She truly was a beautiful family oriented person who took no mess while being quick on her feet. Her legacy will always represent the strength of this family. Forever will she be in our hearts even though she cannot be here physically. Spiritually we will feel her with us. She can now rest with no pain. We needed her, but God needed her more.
Mamie was the sixth child out of ten. She ended up having six beautiful children of her own.
Mamie was preceded in death by: her parents, Sally and James Perry; her husband, Robert (Bobby) Brown; her brother, James Jr.; sisters, Janie, Aldrina, Mary, Sandra and Irish Perry; and her grandson, Maurice Fate Jr.
On May 30th, 2023, Mamie was called Home. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her siblings, Larry, Joan and Francine Perry; her children, Victoria, Robert, Ernestine, Elaine, Sally and Brian Brown; twenty grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
