In Loving Memory of Mack “Mack-A-Doodle” Long
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life lived unapologetically that we remember Mack Long, affectionately known by friends, family, and anyone lucky enough to hear one of his late-night rants as “Mack-A-Doodle.” Mack passed surrounded by memories of laughter, love, and the unmistakable smell of pepperoni pizza that seemed to follow him everywhere he went.
Mack was a proud pizza delivery driver, a man who treated every delivery like a mission and every customer like an old friend. Whether navigating snowstorms, late-night cravings, or impossible apartment complexes, he carried himself with determination, humor, and an unmatched devotion to getting people their food hot and on time. Later in life, he also served as a regional manager at BeaverTails, where his larger-than-life personality and relentless work ethic left a lasting mark on coworkers and customers alike.
Above all else, Mack’s proudest accomplishment was marrying the love of his life, Tammy Lang, whom he lovingly referred to as “Gooch.” Those who knew Mack understood that beneath the jokes, the appetite for pizza, and the endless stories was a man deeply devoted to Tammy. His often-repeated words, “I miss Tammy and I’m so sleepy,” became an oddly perfect reflection of his soft heart and exhausted humor.
Mack is lovingly remembered by his son, Trent Erwin, whose arrival into the world became one of Mack’s favorite stories to tell. Friends and family never tired of hearing him dramatically recount “the day he gave birth to his son Trent,” delivered with complete sincerity and confidence despite the biological impossibility. That story alone captured Mack’s spirit better than anything else could: absurd, warm, unforgettable, and committed to the bit until the very end.
He is also survived by close family member Riley Billings and many others whose lives were made brighter by his humor, generosity, and endless supply of pizza-related wisdom.
Mack believed strongly in giving back to his community. He frequently helped the homeless and hungry by distributing pizza coupons to anyone who needed a meal or even just a small act of kindness. To Mack, food was never just food. It was comfort, connection, and proof that somebody cared. His impact on others came, as many friends joked, “with pepperoni.”
A deeply religious man, Mack practiced Islam faithfully and carried his beliefs with quiet conviction. His faith guided his compassion, generosity, and loyalty to the people he loved.
Those who knew Mack will remember his booming laugh, his obsession with pizza, his endless love for Tammy, and his ability to turn even the strangest moments into stories people repeated for years. He lived loudly, imperfectly, and authentically — a rare kind of person impossible to replace.
And yes, as requested, it should forever be remembered that Joyce was mad about pepperoni.
May Mack “Mack-A-Doodle” Long rest peacefully, reunited with the people he loved most, with warm pizza nearby and eternal rest finally catching up to him.
We'll plant real trees for you in Mack's memory and display your contribution forever.
All condolences, notes and wishes in this book of memories.
