Lucia Cecilia Tirado, affectionately known as Abuela Tinita, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, in Río Grande, Puerto Rico, at the age of 88. She was born on July 12, 1935, in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

Abuela Tinita was a beloved member of her family and community. Her warm and caring nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She had a kind word, a listening ear, and a heart full of love for everyone.

Throughout her life, Abuela Tinita was a dedicated homemaker and a pillar of strength for her family. She found joy in creating a nurturing and loving home, where countless cherished memories were made. Her delicious Puerto Rican dishes, especially her famous arroz con gandules, brought people together and filled their hearts and stomachs with happiness.

Abuela Tinita had a passion for gardening and spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flowers and plants. She found solace in nature's beauty and often shared her gardening tips and knowledge with those around her. Her green thumb was admired by all who saw her vibrant garden.

In her free time, Abuela Tinita enjoyed sewing and knitting. She lovingly crafted beautiful garments and blankets, each stitch a testament to her skill and dedication. Her handiwork will be treasured by her loved ones for generations to come.

Abuela Tinita will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on May 6, 2024, at the San Juan Memorial Chapel in Río Grande, Puerto Rico. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Puerto Rico Gardeners Association in memory of Abuela Tinita.
