Lover Brown McGilberry Sr., affectionately known as Big Love, passed away on October 27, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on August 20, 1965, to Margie Frazier and Calvin Lyles in San Francisco, CA, he spent his later years living in Oakland, CA. Lover was a devoted father to his three children, Lover McGilberry Jr., Ruthie McGilberry, and Love McGilberry, and a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren: Sanaiyah Davis, Alexandria McGilberry, Lover McGilberry Jr. the 3rd, Sa’Myra Cheatum, and Semaj Cheatum. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sevyn Johnson.
Lover was a hardworking man with a passion for construction and entrepreneurship, having built a successful career as a construction worker and operated his own scrapping business. He took immense pride in his achievements and enjoyed sharing his success with his family. Known for his infectious laughter, Lover had a fascination with cars, often spending hours working on them and indulging in his love for fishing.
Family was central to Lover's life; he relished attending his youngest son’s school events and football games, always making time for outings that created lasting memories. His favorite dish was his mother's homemade macaroni and cheese, which remains a beloved reminder of family gatherings. Lover is survived by his children, grandchildren, and his siblings: Leoncio White, Donnell McGilberry, and Robert McGilberry. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, including his very special niece, Margie Hoskins, known as Syeisha.
Lover's warmth and humor touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the love and joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will cherish the memories of his laughter and love for life.
