Obituary

Logan Dean Whitcomb, born on December 20, 2004, in Duluth, MN, passed away on October 7, 2024, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. He was a beloved son to Christine and Dean Whitcomb and a cherished brother to Elizabeth and Zachary Golen. Also taking care of him was his “second mom” Paula Thao, who helped care for Logan when he was just a toddler to middle school age. Logan embraced life with a goofball spirit, exhibiting a laidback demeanor and an open-minded attitude that endeared him to all who knew him.

Logan was a proud graduate of Hermantown High School, Class of 2023. He had a passion for working on cars, catching all sized fish (which he had a knack at catching fish smaller then the size of a finger), golfing, playing video games on his PS5, and sharing joyful moments with friends and family. Among his favorite pastimes were enjoying delicious meals from Chipotle and Taco Bell, snacking on Cheez Its, and slurping on cheap Ramen from Walmart. A devoted sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong Packer fan who also held a special place in his heart for the Vikings. Logan loved playing hockey with friends and attending Minnesota Wild games, often sharing his enthusiasm for the sport.

Logan's love for music spanned a wide range, though he had a particular fondness for 80’s rock. He enjoyed memorable experiences, such as attending a concert to see $uicide boy$. He was an adventurous spirit, relishing a recent trip to Puerto Rico with friends and making plans for future travels, including a trip to Vegas for his 21st birthday and a journey to Germany.

Throughout his life, Logan faced significant health challenges, undergoing two kidney transplants and living with Prune Belly Syndrome— medical realities that shaped his resilience and determination. He was a left-handed writer who performed most other tasks right-handed, a quirk that reflected apart of his unique personality.

Logan grew up surrounded by pets, including cats, rats, fish, bunnies, turtles, and most recently, his dog named Boss. He was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand, impacting the lives of his childhood friends Nathan, Austin, Jessica, Trey, Ian, and among many others.

He is survived by his loving parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of close friends who will forever cherish his memory.

We’d like to thank Essentia Health in Duluth and North Memorial in Robbinsdale for all of their expertise, hard work, and giving the best care they could to Logan.

Logan Dean Whitcomb will be remembered as a vibrant young man whose laughter and spirit enriched the lives of all who knew him.

There will be a celebration of life for Logan at the Shriner’s Building in Hermantown, MN on October 26th, 2024 - starting at 10AM and ending at 4PM.
