Lisa graduated from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles in 1967. She earned a teaching credential at California State University of Los Angeles in 1968 and a Masters in Reading at Western Washington University in 1978. She also completed an Ed. D. in Educational Administration at Harvard University in 1991.
Lisa married Barry Bjork on August 2, 1969, at the Navy Chapel in San Diego in an ecumenical service.
Lisa and Barry traveled extensively, visiting various places in the United States, Europe, Israel, Russia, China, and Japan. They even went on a trip on a Knutsen Line freighter as a honeymoon gift.
Lisa worked as an English and reading teacher at Bellingham High School. She later became a school administrator at Sehome High School in Bellingham and then served as assistant superintendent and superintendent at the South Whidbey School District. After retirement, she worked at Seattle Pacific University as Continuing Education Director and assistant professor.
Lisa had a lifelong desire for a spiritual home and explored different religious affiliations, including spending five years in the convent. She also had a love for plants and flowers and enjoyed watching them grow in her home across from the Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens.
Lisa was interred in the Masonic Cemetery in Tumwater, Washington, after a private family service on April 28, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Whidbey Schools Foundation, Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens, Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment, or any preferred charity.
We'll plant real trees for you in Lisa's memory and display your contribution forever.
