Lea was a true musician and had a passion for singing country & western music. She would always carry a tune and sing while cleaning or driving. Bob and Lea spent their early retirement time RVing around the country. Lea also loved crossword puzzles, word search and caring for her two puppies, Bella and Ruby
Lea loved everything BBQ. She enjoyed her sweets too, including cherry strudel and heath bars.
Lea loved all country western music but her favorite was Loretta Lynn. Conway Twitty is another favorite, and the singer Allen Jackson.
Lea had her own band for many years. Country Sunshine was the name and they filled the hearts of the community with music and joy. One of her favorite places to be was on stage singing to a crowd and bringing music to friends and family.
Lea was so loved by her family and she put family first in all that she did. Her husband Bob, and kids meant the world to her
RVing with her loving husband Bob. Together they took numerous trips across the country visiting family and making friends.
Lea loved old western movies and shows. She and Bob spent countless hours watching Gunsmoke and Rifleman!

Leila Fern May, affectionately known as Lea and Grandma Darlin, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on December 6, 1933, in Salina, Kansas, she spent her later years in Lutz, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family.
Lea was a talented musician who brought joy to many as the leader of her own band, Country Sunshine. Her passion for singing country and western music was evident in everything she did; she could often be heard singing while cleaning or driving. Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and Alan Jackson were her favorite artists, and she cherished every moment spent performing on stage.
Family was at the heart of Lea's life. She was married to her beloved husband, Bob May, for 48 wonderful years, and together they created countless memories RVing across the country, visiting family, and making new friends. Lea was a dedicated mother to her five children: Connie, Rhonda, Vicki, Donna, and Doug. She was preceded in death by her children Vicki and Doug. She adored her many grandchildren, including Tracy, Kellie, Jessica, Amanda, Aaron, Savanna, and Andrew, and was a proud great-grandmother to many. Lea and Bob doted on their dogs, Bella and Ruby.
Beyond her musical talents, Lea enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and word searches, and she had a particular fondness for BBQ, cherry strudel, and Heath bars. She spent countless hours watching her favorite old westerns, especially Gunsmoke and The Rifleman, with Bob by her side.
A true believer in her faith, Lea always kept those in need in her prayers, embodying compassion and kindness. She is survived by her sister, Helen Tolbert, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Lelia Fern May's vibrant spirit and love for music and family will forever be remembered, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
