Obituary

Lawrence Giovinco, known affectionately as Larry, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on April 19, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, Larry spent his life dedicated to his family and community. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jamie Swain, and his three children: Lawrence Jr. Giovinco, Vincent (Mary) Giovinco, and Dana (Matt) Foley. Larry was a proud grandfather to Captain Tyler (Erin) Giovinco, Kylie Giovinco, Alivia, Ryan, and Michael Foley, and Josephine and Gabrielle Giovinco.

Larry's infectious laugh and warm, welcoming smile were hallmarks of his personality. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan and cherished attending his grandchildren's sporting events, where he became their biggest supporter. An enthusiastic hobbyist, he found joy in working on antique rifles and driving his cherished 1980 El Camino. He was particularly fond of the meals prepared by his darling wife, Jamie.

Professionally, Larry was a dedicated salesman and driver, working for Old Style Shared Beverage and Jay's Potato Chips for 20 years, and later for Custom Cut Woodworking for a decade. In his community, he contributed as a volunteer baseball coach in Norwood Park and assisted with girls' and boys' basketball at St. Cornelius.

Larry was born to Lawrence and Antoinette Giovinco and was the brother of Rick (Carmela) Giovinco. He was a caring uncle to Chandler (Steven) Manos and Hudson and Eli Swain, and a devoted godfather to Maria (Matt) Galloway.

Retiring in 2008, Larry became involved in his wife's daycare, where he was lovingly referred to as "Papa" by all the children. His greatest pride was watching his grandchildren play sports, a testament to his deep love for family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Larry's legacy of love and laughter will be cherished by all who knew him.
