Obituario

Lambro (Larry) Nicholas Gatsos, born on September 4, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away on November 22, 2024, in Sudbury, Ontario.

Larry had a diverse range of interests. He was an avid hockey fan, passionately supporting the Toronto Maple Leafs without once wearing a bag over his head. He loved cycling for the joy of it but from a young age also loved driving cars - excelling in dirt ball rallies. Larry enjoyed the great outdoors and became a transplanted northerner, living and working in Sudbury since 2014. His love for music crossed genres, with favorites from Hendrix, the Beatles and John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, to jazz, especially Tony Bennett.

Larry cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as a sauna followed by a swim in a freshwater lake; he found solace with his toes in the water and face in the sun, or beside a crackling fire by the water's edge. Oh, and the odd golf game now and then.

Professionally, Larry was a dedicated and talented individual. His journey began in his youth when he excelled in goaltending and electric guitar, showcasing a remarkable set of skills in both but opting for a gaggle of girls rather than pucks in the head.

After decades as a working musician and 6 years on the road, Larry joined Dufflet Pastries as a delivery driver for some stability. His exceptional work ethic and quick mind soon led him to become the Plant Operations and Fleet Manager, where he oversaw a significant $1.5 million plant expansion without any downtime. Larry was also instrumental in the development of CubeRoute, a pioneering tracking system for small vehicle fleets. But most importantly to him, he consistently stood up for his worker's rights, even at his own peril.

Larry's parents were immigrant small business owners; in the early 2000's he saw the potential in internet marketing for small businesses to level the field in online advertising. After Dufflet's, Larry spent time becoming Google-certified in a variety of areas.

Post-retirement Larry worked as a driver for Life-Labs, which gave him the flexibility to work on internet things and care for an ill friend.

Larry held a steadfast belief that "one is not a failure until one stops trying," a motto that guided him throughout his life. He is remembered primarily for his sweetness. Larry was well liked by those around him.

He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ceremonias pasadas

Servicio

Larry exited his body at home, as was his choice, surrounded by love. Jimi Hendrix "Angel" was played n the moments following as he ascended back to the stars, on the road again to the Great Gig in the Sky. Honoured with a ceremonial cedar bath, he was shaved, dressed in his finery, and shrouded in a Star Blanket quilted by elders at Atikameksheng, and lovingly gifted to Larry by his good friends Marina McComber and Sam XXX. His feet were adorned with new moccasins for his journey, delivered through a snowstorm by Anita Pelletier of Serpent River Trading Post ('chi meegwetch!). Many thanks to Simple Wishes of the North for their kindness and care. Donations to your local food bank in Larry's memory would please him.
