Kirk was not only a loving family man, but he was very active as well, he was an avid visitor to his favorite gyms and watching football. Two of his favorite things.
Although he probably talked about it a lot, my father was very into hacker culture and an event known as ‘thotacon’. It was an event for hackers and recruiters to meet and talk without discourse, and some of his favorite hoodies came from that event!
His daughter, Landyn. He was very very vocal and happy to spend time with her and her with him. She was the light of his life and he made sure she knew it.
This is easy, his hometown would be a good answer, which is fair. But the real answer is wherever his family was, specifically where his mother was. He loved her and everyone of his family.
Well, he had a lot of favorite shows from when I was a kid, but he always liked those older shows, things like the Andy griffin show or other older movies that he could find. Those were some of his favorites.
It was easily football. It was his first love, as far as I know. He loved the game, it was a part of him that I knew well, he was very fond of teaching me his secrets in the game, and he came to every one of my games when I was a little kid.
Kirk Haywood, 57 of Chicago,IL, passed away peacefully June 12, 2024, surrounded by loving family and friends. A dedicated father and businessman, Kirk was born on January 23, 1967, the 3rd of 6 children. He was preceded in death by his late mother Martha Jean Haywood. ‘Woody’ as he was affectionately nicknamed, graduated from Carpentersville High School as an accomplished athlete. He went on to attend Harper Community College and had a long career as a mortgage broker.
Kirk had many passions but none higher than caring for his 20 year old son Grayson and 17 year old daughter Landyn. He will have left many fond memories of bike rides, traveling, and attending church service together. His devotion to his church family developed over a 10+ year dedication to Victory Cathedral Worship Center where Kirk faithfully served on the security committee. His strong faith as a ‘Victory Walker’ has surely led him home into God’s protective arms.
God, Family, and Football is a common phrase, but would describe Kirk’s philosophy as well. He wore the #25, and played defensive end for the DuPage County Eagles. Known as an aggressively fast player with deceptive abilities, he led the Eagles to many victories including multiple national championships and won MVP. His football career reached the highest level of accomplishment by being inducted into the Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019, being nominated by Jack Ball. He continued to show his love for the game as he volunteered as an assistant coach for several years for a local Pop Warner football team.
Kirk is survived by his son Grayson Lee Haywood (20), and daughter, Landyn Marie Haywood (17), both residing in Bolingbrook, IL; his 5 siblings- Dolly, Mechelle, James, Mike, and Frank; his cousin Luke Davis; and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Friday, July 12th from 11:00-12:00 at Victory Cathedral Worship Center, 369 Weber Rd, Bolingbrook, IL. The family wishes to convey sincere gratitude to all the thoughts and prayers received.
Come celebrate the life of Kirk Haywood, a wonderful football star, husband, father, brother uncle and more.
