Obituary

Kenneth William Lavoie, born on November 28, 1946, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, passed away on October 20, 2024, in Wheatley, Ontario. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, community service, and passion for life.

Ken was a proud Master Breeder of pigeons, recognized in the Canadian Hall of Fame for his excellence in modena pigeons. A dedicated family man, he cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for sweets was well-known, with cakes, donuts, puddings, and pies being among his favorites. An avid fan of Elvis Presley, Ken often found himself singing along to his favorite song, "My Way." He enjoyed action movies and was a loyal supporter of Yankees baseball and Lions football.

Professionally, Ken had a diverse career, starting with his ownership of Ken’s Men’s Wear in Amherstburg. He then served with Canada Post, moving from mailman to management, overseeing multiple post offices across Ontario. He also played a significant role in the family business, VIVA LAS VEGAS, as a part-owner and full-time sound technician, as well as Windsor White Doves. Ken was especially proud of his induction into the Canadian Modena Club Hall of Fame.

In high school, he demonstrated early leadership as the National President of Junior Achievement Canada. Known affectionately as the “grumpy old man,” Ken's gruff exterior often masked a warm heart. He enjoyed sharing knowledge and experiences with others, always ready to lend a helping hand. His commitment to the community was evident in his active involvement with his church and as the creator of Operation Christmas Tree, a successful initiative that provided assistance to those in need during the holiday season.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandy Lavoie (Byron), their two children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He will be remembered not only for his competitive spirit and love for success but also for the laughter and joy he brought into the lives of those around him. His favorite place was in his pigeon loft or anywhere surrounded by his family, where he found immense joy and fulfillment.
