Kenny was born on February 2, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Gerald (Jerry) Glen Martin and Nancy (Stanger) Murphy. He joined the United States Marine Corps directly out of high school, serving from 1975-1979. After leaving the military, Kenny worked tirelessly to provide for his family, spending time as a mechanic and a truck driver, before falling in love with carpentry. He worked for many years as a home remodeler, bringing beauty into other people’s lives.
When there was time to relax, Kenny enjoyed doing diamond art, puzzles, or shopping online for the best bargains. He also enjoyed reading cookbooks and car manuals, watching westerns like Bonanza, or listening to the Golden Oldies. Really though, his children and grandchildren were the center of Kenny’s life. He expressed his love the most through baking for his family. Whether that was a pineapple upside down cake, chicken and noodle soup, or most of all his biscuits and gravy, you never left his house hungry.
In addition to his parents, Kenny is preceded in death by his daughter Cristy Meadows and his sons, Nicholas Martin, and Nathan Martin; and siblings Steve Martin, Doug Martin, Amber Hanisch, and grandson, Logan Martin.
He is survived by his daughters Sandy Carter (Johnny Sr.), Siobhan Martin, and stepdaughter Cassandra McCormick; siblings Dennis Martin (Patricia) and Connie Gehring (Harry); grandchildren Kayla Martin, Johnny Carter Jr., Sabreena Carter, Eryx Coulon, Xavier Martin, Jax Martin, Trey Meadows, Shayla Meadows, Electra Meadows, Jamar Meadows, Asia Lee Thammavongsa, Trinidad Huerta, Isabel Huerta, and Adelynn Poindexter.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11 am – 1 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) with funeral services following at 1 pm.
