Obituary

Obituary

Kate Naa Adjeley Quaye

Today we face one of God’s beautifully orchestrated moments, the transition of life. Romans 14:8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

The heavens opened up in the late afternoon hours of March 13, 2025 to receive Kate Naa Adjeley Quaye (aka Auntie Kate), aged 77 at the Regeis Care Center, Bronx, NY., after a short illness. Auntie Kate was born to the late Welbeck Nii Tackie Quaye(Papa Nii) and Late Leticia Naa Quaye (Nanaa) on February 07, 1948. Auntie Kate started as a telephone operator during the era when there were no computers and phone calls had to be routed through an operator to be connected in some cases. Auntie Kate changed careers in her mid twenties to become a community health nurse, travelling to rural communities in Accra, Ghana to care for deprived communities before later accepting opportunities in Nigeria where she worked as a registered nurse. Auntie Kate pursued her nursing career in Lagos Nigeria for another 20 years before returning to Accra Ghana to join the Health Service as a Juvenile Counselor for another five years before her final retirement from active employment.

After retiring from nursing, she moved to New York to be closer to her children and grandchildren.  During her active years Auntie Kate never missed an invitation to an event or occassion. She was very popular among her family and friends. Her generosity extended to most neighbors in her area in Accra New Town hence, the name “Area Mama!”.  She loved to read and collected books, hoping to open a school and a library when she returned back to live in Ghana again before her sudden passage.
