Kandice Deonn Leonard, known affectionately as Momma K or Kandi, passed away on June 3, 2024, at the age of 50. Born on May 14, 1974, in Lubbock, Texas, she most recently resided in Homer, Illinois. Kandice was a devoted homemaker who found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is remembered for her famous spaghetti, which brought the family together, and for the countless hours she spent snuggling with her grandkids and her beloved dog, Buttercup.
Kandice had a passion for music, with a special fondness for bands like Evanescence, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Linkin Park. She loved attending concerts, where she created lasting memories with friends and family. Her favorite place in the world was Guntersville Lake in Alabama, where she found peace and happiness.
She was the proud mother of Cynthia Burnett, Joshua Leonard, Zachary Leonard, Justin Leonard, Summer Williams (Reder), Abigail Leonard, Madeline Leonard, Andrea Nunez, and Mathew Leonard. Her legacy also includes her grandchildren: Brayden Borkowski, Zaden Leonard, Remy Nunez, Mila Nunez, Gabi Nunez, Zara Nunez, Amir Nunez, Aria Nunez, Jameson Leonard, and Scarlette Leonard, as well as Ezra Reder. Kandice had a remarkable ability to make every child feel welcome, often becoming a mother figure to many beyond her own family.
She is survived by her siblings, Michelle Baker, Shaunna Hites, and Ronnie Hites, who will carry on her memory. Kandice was known for her selflessness and her stubborn spirit, embodying the motto, “This Too Shall Pass.” Her impact on the lives of those around her was immeasurable, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
