Julian Douglas Dunbar, lovingly known as Doug, passed away on June 7, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on February 14, 1947, in Anderson, Indiana, to his parents Roy and Edith Dunbar. Julian was survived by his beloved wife Dianne Dunbar, his son Jared Dunbar, and his cherished grandchildren Gary, Brayden, Dylan, Jacob, Brooklynn, and Grayson, as well as his great grandson William.
Doug had a vibrant and fulfilling life. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he bravely defended his country. After his military service, he pursued a career at ABF truck lines office and retired from there. Julian was a devout churchgoing Christian and a lifetime member of The Church of Christ.
In his free time, Doug enjoyed the open road on his Harley, exploring the beauty of Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. He had a deep appreciation for bluegrass, country, and mountain music, with his favorite band being The Oak Ridge Boys. Julian's love for banjo music even led him to learn how to play the instrument himself.
Family was of the utmost importance to Doug, and he always went above and beyond to support and help his loved ones. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his dad jokes. Julian's children and grandchildren could always rely on him for guidance and assistance.
Aside from his passion for music, Julian was a history enthusiast and had a particular interest in the Civil War. He was an avid collector and loved to share his knowledge with others. Camping at Elkmont in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was one of his favorite pastimes.
Julian Douglas Dunbar will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, silly nature, and unwavering dedication to his family will be remembered fondly. May he rest in peace.
A funeral service will be held in Julian's honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Church of Christ in his memory.
