Obituary

Judith Freeman Rodriguez of Clarksville, TN, passed away on May 2, 2024, at 79 years of age.

Judy, as she was lovingly known by friends and family, was born on May 18, 1944, to the late Buford and Nettie Freeman in Crossville, AL. She was the third of six children – Wayne, Dale, Ricky, Lynette and Cindy. During her junior year of high school, Dale returned home from the service, bringing a friend in tow. This friend, Herbert O. Rodriguez, Sr. would become Judy’s husband on February 16, 1962, a love that lasted for 53 years. Judy and Herb were blessed with two children, son, Herbert O. Rodriguez, Jr. and daughter, MagdaLynn Rodriguez McAllister.

As a young woman, Judy worked as a phone operator at Bellsouth, but in later years, she held the secretary position at her long-time church, First Baptist Church Geraldine in Alabama. In 2013, after relocating to Tennessee she joined Pleasant View Baptist Church and, possessing a true servant’s heart, she began volunteering across different ministries including the senior adult ministry, Operation Christmas Child, Good News Club, the Benevolence Committee, and the Church Council.

Judy had an unwavering belief in God, was a well-loved member of her church and community, and was the heart of the Rodriguez family. She loved her husband and family tremendously and, more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with them. She also loved to garden, read, play board/card games, care for visiting hummingbirds, and she always had a sewing or knitting project underway!

Judy was predeceased by her loving husband.  She is survived by her son, Herbert Rodriguez, Jr., her daughter MagdaLynn McAllister (John), her five grandchildren, Amanda Graves (James), Jon Rodriguez (Kelly), Kaley Chiles (James), Kristi Rodriguez, Thomas Stinson (Kailey), and her two great-grandchildren, Ronin Rodriguez and Stella Stinson.

The family will receive visitors from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Pleasant View Baptist Church (1388 Cumberland Heights Road, Clarksville) and to honor her memory, a Celebration of Life service will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to one of the ministries that Judy was most passionate about:

·         Pleasant View Baptist Church, c/o Operation Christmas Child program (1388 Cumberland Heights Road, Clarksville, TN 37040), where Judy participated in the monthly collection efforts to fill shoeboxes with Christmas gifts, school supplies, and hygiene items for children worldwide.

·         Adult and Teen Challenge of Middle Tennessee (130 Corporate Drive, Clarksville, TN 37040) where Judy regularly sponsored young men on their addiction recovery journey.

·         Child Evangelism Fellowship (1209 Southern Parkway, Clarksville, TN 37040) where she volunteered in Good News Clubs in various capacities for more than 10 years.

Judy was a wonderful wife, Mom, Nana, sister and friend and will be missed by many. She is in heaven now and is no longer in any pain.
