Joyce Rowan Townsend, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born on August 5, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the first of two children born to Hallie and Stephen Rowan. She most recently resided in Dolton, IL.

Joyce had a zest for life and a genuine love for her family. She enjoyed traveling and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones during family events. Her warm and caring nature touched the hearts of everyone she met. Joyce was known for her love of hugs and had a knack for making people feel special and loved.

In May of 1958, Joyce married the love of her life, Robert Townsend who proceeded her in death. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and joy. They navigated life's ups and downs with unwavering support and devotion.

Joyce leaves behind a loving legacy through her children, Jori Allen-Wells and Robert Townsend Jr., and her cherished grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, Aaron Allen, Chelby Allen, Ravell Townsend, Wendell Townsend, and Diamond Townsend. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Joyce's favorite foods included chicken, rice, and cheeseburgers, which brought her much delight. However, her true happiness was found in the company of her family and friends, as there was no place she loved more than being surrounded by her loved ones.

Though Joyce has departed this world, the memories of her love, kindness, and warm embraces will forever linger in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
