Joyce Marie Craig, born on June 26, 1952, in New Roads, Louisiana, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, known for her big heart and unwavering willingness to help others.
Joyce graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1970 and went on to earn degrees from Southern University, Louisiana State University, and Grambling State University, culminating in her Master’s Degree in Business from LSU, a proud accomplishment she cherished throughout her life. Joyce was the Owner and President of the Baton Rouge School of Notary & Paralegal and worked as a certified paralegal and court reporter.
An avid fan of basketball, Joyce loved watching Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. She enjoyed sewing and knitting in her spare time, and her favorite foods included fried catfish and chitterlings. Joyce found joy in listening to music by Joe Simon and Tyrone Davis, and she often reminisced about her favorite TV show, Dallas, and the film Imitation of Life.
Joyce is survived by her son, Robert "Robi" Oliver, her daughter-in-law, Tracy Oliver, her goddaughter, Troy Anne Freeman, and her siblings: Lloyd, Hilary, Claybon, and Alton Jones, as well as Claire Lawrence, June Breaux, and Theresa Anne Jones. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Lester V. Craig, parents, Roland Jones Sr. and Lillian Jones, and her siblings, Roland Jones Jr. and Annie Belle Jones.
Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, her love for Hawaii, and her favorite ice cream, Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to her family and community.
