Born on June 21, 1929, to John Todman and Hilda Georges Todman, Joyce lived a life full of love, faith, and adventure.

Joyce was raised in the Beulah Wesleyan Methodist Church and later embraced Catholicism, becoming a devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where she worshipped for over 25 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through joys and challenges alike.

Joyce's commitment to helping others extended beyond her family and faith. She was actively involved in several charitable organizations, including participating in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walks, assisting Newborns in Need, and volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Joyce also worked tirelessly behind the scenes at her church, helping in the office and dedicating time to the Lazarus Organization, which supports grieving families. Her compassionate nature and generous spirit were evident in every endeavor, leaving a lasting impact on the lives she touched.

A trailblazer in her professional life, Joyce served as a highly sought-after stenographer for the New York City court system, a career she dedicated herself to for an impressive 40 years. Her precision and diligence earned her the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Joyce had a love for travel and adventure. She explored the world with joy, visiting Africa, Aruba, South America, and marking her 80th birthday with a grand trip to Jerusalem alongside her church family. Whether cruising the seas or immersing herself in new cultures, Joyce’s journeys were a reflection of her vibrant spirit.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Delores Todman, and her cherished sister, Huldah Parker. Joyce leaves behind her devoted grandchildren, DaMaris Vanzandt and Baliza Stewart, who were her pride and joy, as well as her six great-grandchildren: Jade Moore, Kealin Vanzandt, Gabrielle Vanzandt, Nadia Vanzandt, Ryan Gordon Vanzandt, and Kaspian Osnowitz-Stewart.

Joyce was lovingly known as “Granny” not just to her family but to all of DaMaris and Baliza’s closest friends, whom she warmly embraced as her own. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love created a sense of family wherever she went.

Among her most treasured relationships were those with her niece, Wendy Parker Harris, and her nephew, Rodney Parker. Joyce shared an unbreakable bond with Wendy and Rodney, pouring her love and wisdom into their lives. She celebrated every milestone and cherished their families, embracing their children as if they were her own grandchildren. Her warmth and presence were a source of comfort, joy, and encouragement for them. The connection they shared was a testament to the depth of her love and commitment to family.

She will also be deeply missed by her lifelong friends Jean Bishop and Pearline Washington, her nieces Donna Washington, Cheryl Jordan, Bobbie Bowles, Lisa Graves, Michelle Ford, Carla Bowles, and Ramona Vicente.

Joyce’s legacy is one of love, faith, charity, and a zest for life. She touched countless lives and will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unshakable faith.
