Joseph Roy Dixon (October 29, 1943 – July 20, 1965) was an American singer and musician known for his early start in music as the lead singer of the doo-wop group The Harminos. Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Joseph showed a passion for music from a young age, attending public school before leaving to pursue his growing musical career. As a young performer he recorded songs on Crest Records, including “I Won’t Ever Let You Go,” and quickly became known among friends and fellow musicians for his creativity, charisma, and determination. Joseph loved writing songs, singing, playing instruments, and listening to artists such as Chuck Berry, whose music inspired him. Those who knew him remembered him as kind-hearted, playful, and full of energy, someone who could brighten a room with his voice and personality. A devoted Christian, Joseph was baptized a few months before his passing and valued his faith deeply. He was married twice during his lifetime and was the father of a son, Joseph Dixon Jr., who sadly passed away just days after birth. Joseph was preceded in death by his mother and his infant son, and he is remembered today for the passion he brought to music and the lasting impression he left on friends, family, and those who heard him perform. Though his life was short, his spirit, talent, and love for music continue to be remembered.
Please focus on Joseph Roy Dixon’s passion for music, his creative spirit, and the kindness he showed to those around him. From a young age, music was at the center of his life, and he shared his talent through singing, songwriting, and performing with dedication and heart. Those who knew Joseph remember him as charismatic, determined, and full of life, someone who could bring people together through his voice and personality. Though his life was brief, the impression he left on friends, family, and those who heard him perform continues to be remembered.
