Obituary

Jose Cruz Martinez, lovingly known as Joe or JoJo, passed away on June 9, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on May 3, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, and most recently resided in Manteca, California.

Jose had a deep appreciation for music, particularly the blues and jazz genres. He found solace in the melodies that touched his soul. In his younger years, he was an avid wind surfer and had almost participated in Olympic tryouts.

Above all, Jose cherished his family. He held them dear to his heart and found immense joy in their presence. His children, Adrian, Nikk, Elias, Theresa, Megan, and Shaun also hold him very near and dear to their hearts as well. Also survived by his grandchildren Darian, Isaiah, Bradley, Alexis, Johnny Jr., and Donovan.

Jose had a passion for history, and the History Channel was his go-to source of entertainment. He loved watching shows like Gold Rush and old World War documentaries, continually expanding his knowledge.

Football and baseball were among Jose's favorite sports, and he never missed an opportunity to root for his favorite teams. His commitment to his country was unwavering, as he proudly served as a Vietnam War Marine veteran, achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5. He embodied the Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis, "always faithful" or "always loyal." SEMPER FI!

Jose was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cathy. He is survived by his siblings, Edward, Raymond, Stephen, and Monica, who will miss him dearly.

Throughout his life, Jose made an impact on those around him with his intelligence, humor, and ability to engage in captivating conversations. He was dedicated to his faith and had been involved with the Knights of Columbus, an organization affiliated with the Catholic Church.

In remembrance of Jose Cruz Martinez, let us celebrate the life he lived, the love he shared, and the memories he leaves behind. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Cathy, and may his family find solace in the cherished moments they shared.
