Jose Americo Rovelo Pereira
Jose Americo Rovelo Pereira, lovingly known as "Americo," passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on January 3, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by family.
Born in 1937 in Santiago de Maria, El Salvador, to Tulio Federico and Angela, Jose spent his early years as an avid gymnast and boxer. He later became a prominent figure in San Salvador's cultural scene, bringing vibrancy to the city through his renowned discotheque, Hilltop. His deep passion for music was ever-present, and those who knew him fondly recall the melodies that often accompanied his presence.
Americo had a flair for style and a love for vehicles that reflected his unique personality. From Alfa Romeos and Fiats to a BMW, his taste in cars was as distinctive as his character. In the 1970s, he embraced his love for motorcycles with a Harley-Davidson that further cemented his reputation as a trendsetter in his community.
A devoted soccer enthusiast, Americo especially enjoyed cheering for FC Barcelona. His spirited cries of "Ole!" during matches were a testament to his unwavering passion for the sport.
In 1980, Americo arrived in the United States as a refugee, settling first in Van Wert, Ohio, then Witchita, Kansas where he went to school to learn English before making Dallas, Texas, his home. He admired and supported the U.S., including its Peace Corps efforts during his time in El Salvador.
Americo is survived by his beloved wife, Martha, and eight children - Carlos Antonio Rovelo, Lesbia America Rovelo Mejia, Regina Rovelo, William Martinez Rovelo, Katia Rovelo, Marielos Rovelo, Americo Rovelo, and Claudia Rovelo. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
