John loved the game of golf. He was a member of the Credit Valley Golf Club for over 50 years and at the Atlantis Golf Club at his winter residence in Atlantis Florida In 2012 John was honoured as a winner of the year's Outstanding Contribution to Community Sports Award. Back in the 1950s John helped to raise $360,000 towards the construction of the Port Credit Arena. In 2008 he was instrumental in having the arena designated as a heritage site. In 2011 John was honoured by the naming of the John Holland Room at the arena.
john started his carerer as an accountant at a car delearship. In 1958 John opened his first dealership and that begain a career if owning many dealerships thoughout his career. In 2007 John left the dealership game and opened Southport Centre Inc. in Mississauga focusing on investment oportunities and real estate
John's accomplishement could fill a book. In addition to owning car dealeerships John was very involved in the growth of the automobile industing holding positions as President, Hamilton Burlington Dealers Association, President Ontario Automobile Dealers Association, Founding Member Goernment RElations, T.A.D.A/O.A.D.A, Member of the General Motors President's Dealer Advisory Council, Founding Chairman of the Canadian Automotive Institute. In 1985 John was a founding member and Chairman of fundraising for the Automotive Business School of Canada at Georgian Collage. John realized there was a need for an academic institution created by the industry for the industry. This partnership and program with Georgian College is unique and the only one in Canada. In 2016 John was honoured by Georgian College with the opening of the opening of the John and Eileen Olland Stdy Lounge for the use of the ABS students. In 2013 John donated 37 acres of land to the City of Burlington for the creation of The Eileen and John Holland Nature Sanctuary. This sanctuary forms part of the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System.
John had a very strong faith. He attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in Port Credit Mississauga for most of his life. From alter boy to being an Eucharistic Minister. He also served as Chairman of their Finance Committee. John was also an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Washago, Ontarion were he servied as Eucharist Minister during the summer while his family was at their nearby cottage
John made a lifetime commitment to serving. This includes making both eht workplace and the local comminuty a better place. Through serving on committee, attaining local support along with hard work, long hours and diligence John made a difference in the lives of thousand of automotive workers, college Students and the residence of Mississauga dna Burlington Ontario.
John Vincent Holland was born on January 24, 1928, in Port Credit, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He lived most recently in Mississauga, where he became a beloved figure in the community, known for his lifelong commitment to service and his deep faith.
An accomplished entrepreneur, John began his career as an accountant at a car dealership before opening his own in 1958. This marked the start of a successful journey in the automotive industry, where he owned numerous dealerships throughout his career. John held several prestigious positions, including President of the Hamilton Burlington Dealers Association and the Ontario Automobile Dealers Association, and was a founding member of the Government Relations committee for T.A.D.A/O.A.D.A. His dedication to the industry also led him to serve on the General Motors President's Dealer Advisory Council and as a founding chairman of the Canadian Automotive Institute.
John’s contributions to his community were numerous and impactful. In the 1950s, he played a vital role in raising $360,000 for the construction of the Port Credit Arena, which he helped designate as a heritage site in 2008. The arena honored him in 2011 by naming the John Holland Room in his recognition. In 2013, he generously donated 37 acres of land to the City of Burlington, establishing The Eileen and John Holland Nature Sanctuary, which is a part of the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System.
An avid golfer, John spent many enjoyable hours at the Credit Valley Golf Club for over 50 years and was also a member of the Atlantis Golf Club in Florida. His love for golf was matched only by his commitment to community sports, for which he received the Outstanding Contribution to Community Sports Award in 2012.
