Obituario

John Riley Davis, Sr., affectionately known as Johnny, passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on August 29, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, he was the beloved son of Walter and Etta Davis. Growing up in the close-knit Hawkins Point neighborhood, he shared a joyful childhood with his siblings Doris (deceased), June (deceased), Phyllis, Sylvia, Walter, and Byron (deceased).

John attended City College High School and later pursued higher education at Morgan State University. His dedication to service led him to be drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was fortunate to remain stateside. John built a successful career as a machine repairman at IBM, where he worked for nearly 25 years, followed by a decade at Johns Hopkins University until his retirement.

He was the biological father to three children: Tia, John Jr. (Jay), and Mark. He was married to Eldeen Davis for 40 wonderful years, where he embraced his role as a stepfather to Crystal and Tasha Lett. John was known for his warmth, infectious laughter, and ability to bring joy to those around him. He had a remedy for every illness and loved sharing his knowledge of healthy potions made from herbs and vitamins.

An avid roller skater and football enthusiast, John also found passion in writing poetry and cherished the music of The Winans and Quincy Jones. He was a devoted member of Rehoboth Church of God, where he led the boys’ club, and also attended Faith Apostolic Church and Faith Tabernacle Church.

John is survived by his loving wife, children, stepchildren, and siblings Phyllis Mash, Sylvia Thomas, and Walter Davis, a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the joy he brought into the lives of others will always be remembered. As he often said, “That’s just life.”
