John McKelvey, born on April 22, 1945, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Peachland, British Columbia, at the age of 79. He was a devoted husband to Vonnie for 42 years and a loving father to his children, Corinne Davidson, Steven Davidson, and Cody McKelvey, as well as a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, Jackson Poling, Carter Poling, Jenny McKelvey, and Milicent McKelvey.
John was known for his quiet demeanor and quick-witted sense of humor. He enjoyed camping in his RV and traveling, with favorite destinations including Hawaii and his cherished Smoker Road property along the West Kettle River in Carmi, BC. A fan of armchair sports, he particularly enjoyed watching football and hockey, with a special fondness for the TV show "The Voice."
John had a passion for woodworking, often designing and building small projects. He adored cuddling with his granddaughters and listening to his grandsons share their hiking and biking adventures, as well as their creative musical compositions. His supportive nature and ability to provide a safe space for his loved ones were like a superpower to those who knew him.
Throughout his life, John traveled to numerous countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Ireland, Mexico, China, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic. He graduated from Princess Margaret High School in Surrey, BC, and worked as a condo and building manager before retiring.
John is survived by his siblings, Marion Guild, Jim McKelvey, Theresa McKelvey, Eileen Ellingson, Joe McKelvey, Colleen McKelvey, Ed McKelvey, and Lenora Holtom, as well as his beloved pet, Lucy, who held a special place in his heart. His favorite snacks included bridge mix, licorice, and cashews, and he had a lifelong love for all kinds of music, showcasing his great dancing skills.
John McKelvey will be remembered as a kind, loving, and supportive man who cherished his family and the simple joys of life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
