Obituario

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the unexpected passing of John Howard Huggins, age 56, of Mesa, Arizona. John passed on May 1st with his devoted wife and best friend of over 16 years, Julie Barnett Huggins, at his side.

John was born on May 18th, 1968, in Sterling, Illinois to Jim and Elaine Huggins. He was a devoted father, loving husband, and a loyal friend to so many. His sudden departure has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew him.

John dedicated much of his life to public service and local progress. As mayor of Lanark, Illinois, he played a key role in driving economic development and building a better future for the people he proudly served. His deep commitment to his hometown left a lasting legacy.

John was known not only for his service, but also for his spirit- goofy, warm, and approachable. He loved music, dogs, and filling his home with laughter. His greatest joy, though, was his family.

He raised his daughter, Francesca, largely on his own for many years of her life, and was the best dad she could have asked for- supportive, present, and accepting. His wife, Julie, was more than a partner- she was his best friend. Together, they shared a bond rooted in love, laughter, and respect.

He is survived by his wife Julie Barnett Huggins; his daughter Francesca Huggins; his stepchildren Matt Olson, Scott Olson, and Kayla Olson; his 5 grandchildren; his parents, James and Elaine Huggins; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Donate Life in John’s honor. John was given the gift of extended life through a kidney and pancreas donation. That donation gave his family precious extra years with him- filled with laughter and love. As a tribute to his life, we ask that anyone who loved him consider becoming a registered organ donor.
