John Gregory Jordan was born on March 10th, 1957 to parents Arthur and Kathleen Jordan. He grew up in North York with his two older siblings, Paul and Cathy, and his many friends that he kept well into his last days with us. He is survived by his sister Cathy, his two children Selina and Anthony, and his grandson Xavier.
His life was filled with great friends, a loving family, and fantastic memories. Growing up he and his parents and siblings would go on trips, and he continued his journey of exploring the world with his friends in their 20s and 30s, and even later in life with his wife of 17 years and his children as well. He had a passion for sports, and was able to bring his love of curling through life with him. Even when his knee made it so he could no longer play, he kept up with the game and found even more joy in it when his son started playing competitively.
John wore a lot of hats over the years; son, brother, friend, uncle, dad, coach, but his favourite hat of all was grandpa. He valued the people in his life above all else. His friends and family were held near and dear to his heart, and he could always be counted on to be there for the good times, the bad times and everything in between. He would always try to find a way to make those around him smile, even if it was with a really awkward joke and him immediately breaking out into his outrageous laugh that would then fill the entire room. Though he was a homebody, he would never say no to grabbing a beer and some wings with friends while watching the sport of the day on a local bar’s TV screen.
The final few years of John’s life were filled with a wave of new adventures. He moved to Alberta and then Pender Island in British Columbia, to the house his brother had built. He got to watch his grandson grow and defy odds, walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, and watch his son find a passion for a career he loves. Though he wanted to stay longer, life had other plans. John’s passing will leave a hole in the hearts of many, but he will be remembered forever by those of us who were lucky enough to have known him.
A celebration of life will be held on what would have been John’s 66th birthday. It’ll be a very casual event. Feel free to drop in between the hours of 1pm-5pm. John was never one for dressing up so come in whatever makes you comfortable :) All are welcome- kiddos included! An additional celebration will take place at a later date in Calgary. Details TBD!
