Obituary

John Amos Eggert, lovingly known as Amos to his brothers and sisters and Grandpa John to others, passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 93. He was born on February 2, 1931, in Cost, TX, and had been residing in Alameda, CA.

Amos was a man of simple pleasures. His favorite pastime was fishing and working in his garden, which brought him peace and tranquility. He had a sweet tooth and delighted in any treats that had coconut in them. Amos had a deep appreciation for country music and enjoyed listening to his favorite bands and musical artists. He found great entertainment in watching game shows on television.

Amos was an avid fan of women's basketball and followed the sport closely. He was fondly referred to as "Amos" by his loved ones. Amos served his community as a member of the US Navy for 20 years, for his first "retirement" in 1972, and then as a dedicated mailman, delivering letters and parcels as "Mailman John" until his final retirement in 1991. He remained active in the Alameda community making friends whenever he could.

Amos was married to Naoe (formerly Komori of Tokyo, Japan) who sadly passed away in 1993. He leaves behind a son and daughter, John and Ruth, who will forever cherish his memory. Amos also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Oliver (Megan) and Hannah (Garth), his great-granddaughters Quinn and Olivia, his "unofficially adopted" granddaughter Darla and her children Junior, Jeremiah, Viviana. He is also survived by his sister and brother, Peggy and Bud.

Amos will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and his love for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Calvary Christian Church https://calvaryalameda.org/ in Alameda, CA would be appreciated.
