The world was instantly brighter when Joe Turnipseed was born on January 27th, 1928, in Pickens County, Alabama to the late John & Jessie Turnipseed. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Aliceville, Alabama. He later moved to Tuscaloosa and became a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined.
Raised in Pickens County, Joe attended Aliceville colored school where he met his beautiful and loving wife, Lou Ella Campbell. He was very personable and friendly and never met a stranger. He was imaginative and enjoyed drawing, piano playing as well as the guitar. He even wrote poetry and composed gospel music. He touched so many lives and will be missed by everyone.
Joe's love for cooking & carpentry was a testament to his creativity and passion. He had a keen eye for elegance, often seen in his love of hats & suits. He enjoyed quiet time while fishing and reminiscing about good times.
His loving wife Lou Ella Campbell-Turnipseed passed away 10 years ago. Joe is survived by his daughter Beatrice Herron (Tommy), Hempstead, NY. He leaves behind two grandchildren Sean Turnipseed & Rochelle Herron both of Hempstead, New York and two great grandchildren Shalisha Turnipseed (North Carolina) and Shyelle Herron-Jenkins (Hempstead, NY).
Graveside services will be held on Saturday September 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Oak Park. Elder Colin Jones officiating. The repass will be held at the Gordon Community Hall immediately following the service.
