Obituary

Jo Ann Louise Sawyer, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on September 26, 1930, in Mannington, West Virginia, and most recently resided in Rathdrum, Idaho.

Jo Ann had a deep passion for horses and spent her life working with and showing them. She trained her own horses and owned a horse tack shop in Spokane, Washington. Jo Ann's love for animals extended beyond horses, as she also cherished her dogs.

At home with family and friends was Jo Ann's favorite place in the world. She found joy and contentment in the company of her loved ones, surrounded by their love and laughter. She also enjoyed watching any western TV show, finding comfort in the familiar stories of the Old West.

Jo Ann married Charles Sawyer in Mannington, West Virginia in 1948, and together they embarked on a journey that took them to Washington State before finally settling in Rathdrum, Idaho, in 1970. Charles passed away in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Jo Ann is survived by her children, Chuck (Margo), Dennis and Marla; grandchildren; Travis, Darren (Danny), and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Keira, Jax, Brooklynn, Danner, Cheyenne, Branson and Adelyn. She is also survived by her very close cousin, Betty Jo, of WV, whom she talked with daily, niece Paula Hollen of WV, nephews Mark Rankin of WV and Jeff Wells of Spokane, WA. along with her longtime friends. Jo Ann was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and her presence in their lives will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Jo Ann's life will be officiated by Wayne Frisbie and held at 5pm on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Dennis' home: 3992 W. Storm King Dr, Rathdrum, Idaho 83858. It will be a time for family and friends to come together, share memories, and honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many. Also enjoy a BBQ "potluck" meal as memories are shared.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Jo Ann's memory to a local animal shelter, as a tribute to her lifelong love and compassion for animals.

Jo Ann Louise Sawyer will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to her family and animals, and her zest for life. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
