Jimmy Moore, also known as Mr. Moore by many of his friends & former students, has passed on June 1, 2024, at the age of 54. He was born on November 11, 1969, in Chattanooga, TN, and had been residing in New Haven, CT, before his passing.
Mr. Moore dedicated his life to education, working as a teacher for an impressive 40 years. His commitment to his profession was recognized when he was awarded the prestigious title of Best African American Teacher of the Year in 1996. He believed that the best way to a man's survival lies in his ability to think, a motto that he lived by and instilled in his students.
Outside of his career, Mr. Moore was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joyce Moore. They were married for over 50 years, having met right after high school and falling deeply in love. Together, they raised two sons, Nkoy and Zena Moore, and were blessed with eight cherished grandchildren; Omnri Moore, Saran Moore, Camron Moore, Shawn Moore, Evan Moore, Alanna Moore, and a new born baby Issac Moore
Mr. Moore's impact extended beyond the classroom. In the early to late 80s, he generously worked as a barber for inner-city children who lacked the financial means for haircuts. His kindness and selflessness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on the community he lived in.
On June 21, 2024, Mr. Jimmy Moore will be laid to rest in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN. While he may be gone, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
